Over the past few months I have been looking for a new home. I have come across some useful tips when looking at a home in open houses.
Know what you are looking for.
This would include: Approx Lot size, house size, amount of bedrooms, bathrooms, pools, guest houses.
These are things you might not regularly think about:
1. Street Pavement – Blacktop or Cement? (blacktop looks nicer to me)
2. Roofing – Thin or Thick textures?
3. Hillsides – keep in mind that if you buy a home on a hillside there are hidden costs. You will have to maintain the hill which means $$ out of your pocket.
Having extra land is great, but be aware of the home listing. While looking in your price range you might notice properties with huge lots. For the most part this is land is unusable, or mostly on a hillside.
